Effect of Angiotensin on Noradrenaline Release of the Isolated Rabbit Heart

Abstract

A review of the literature about the mechanism of action of angiotensin on the heart shows conflicting results. Some authors (Fowler and Holmes; Koch-Weser) conclude that angiotensin acts exclusively by a direct action, whereas others as for instance Krasney et al. (1965, 1966) postulate that it acts in addition by an indirect adrenergic mechanism. Since the argumentation is mostly based on experiments with cardiac denervation and antagonists without determination of the adrenergic transmitter, it was our aim to contribute to the elucidation of the mechanism of action of angiotensin by measuring the noradrenaline output of the isolated perfused heart at different experimental conditions.
