Stabilization of Semiconductor Lasers

Abstract

Instability is not only the effects for externally perturbed semiconductor lasers. Lasers are also extensively stabilized by optical feedback and optical injection under certain conditions. As results, laser output power, laser modes, and linewidth are greatly stabilized by optical feedback, optical injection, and optoelectronic feedback. We show some examples of laser stabilizations by external controls. Some examples of extra structures installed inside and outside of the active layers of semiconductor lasers are also presented.
