Abstract

NASA has been very active in development of data reduction pipelines for space observatories since the early 1970s. Many of the techniques and architectures used today by the NASA Great Observatories have a pedigree that can be traced back to the pioneering work done by the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) team. These techniques continued to evolve and improve from the manually controlled IUE processing systems to the automated system used today by the Hubble Space Telescope and other NASA projects.
