Abstract
Heart failure is a common cardiac condition with high mortality and morbidity. When conventional medical treatment failed, heart transplant may be the best option for the patient. Due to severe shortage of donor, many patient died waiting for heart transplant. While waiting, some of these patients may need to be placed on ventricular assist device to keep them alive with a reasonable quality of life. The mass media plays an important role to create public awareness and increase the number of organ donor. This paper describes the first two such procedures done in Malaysia. With heart transplant, patient can have a near normal life after the surgery.
