Abstract
The present paper is concerned with the numerical simulation of transonic inviscid steady flows. Among the several numerical methods developed for such computations, the lambda formulation (e.g., Ref. 1) has several, very desirable features: coding simplicity, results accuracy and low computing time per integration step. Such an approach belongs to the upwind differencing methods, which take into account the waves propagation directions and accordingly approximate the space derivatives with appropriate upwind differences, so that the domains of dependence are correctly respected by the numerical technique.
