Abstract
Superior hypogastric plexus block can be an effective method of treatment-recalcitrant pelvic pain. Long-lasting analgesia can be safely achieved with chemical neurolysis in appropriate cases. However, there are many potential complications, including several mechanisms by which neurologic deficits may ensue. Diagnosis and management of these complications requires an extensive knowledge of neuroanatomy, functional anatomy, and physiology. In this chapter, we discuss the differential diagnoses and mechanisms of injury for lower extremity weakness following neurolytic superior hypogastric plexus blockade.
