The Genital, Perianal, and Umbilical Regions

Abstract

Genitalia, perianal, and umbilical regions are commonly affected in various skin diseases. Some dermatoses are predominantly localized to these anatomic regions, and others may occur as a part of generalized cutaneous or systemic disease process. Apart from systemic investigations, a careful mucocutaneous examination and adequate knowledge of cutaneous disorders affecting such areas are essential to prevent the misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. A list encompassing all such important conditions has been prepared and discussed in brief. The sexually transmitted infections/diseases have been described in other chapters in this book.
