High-Energy X-Ray Scattering and Imaging

Abstract

After a slow start with a few pioneering experiments, applications of high-energy X-rays with an energy above 40 keV have become standard at many synchrotron radiation facilities. With rapid improvements in sources, optics, and detectors, we observe today a clear trend towards higher energies in many areas, but in particular in materials science. In this overview we give a brief introduction into high-energy X-ray scattering and imaging guided by a selection of experiments in materials science.

synchrotron radiation source in 1992 it was called DORIS III.

EDD :

Energy Dispersive Diffraction

ESRF :

European Synchrotron Radiation Facility is a joint research facility supported by 20

countries situated in Grenoble, France.

GID :

Grazing Incident Diffraction

PDF :

Pair Distribution Function

PETRA :

Positron-Elektron Tandem Ring Anlage is one of the particle accelerators

at DESY. Originally it was to study electron–positron collisions. The modification

called PETRA-II was a source of high-energy synchrotron radiation and also a

pre-accelerator for a larger ring. 2007 it was converted to high intensity source for

synchrotron radiation called PETRA-III

SPring-8 :

Super Photon ring–8 GeV is a synchrotron-radiation facility located in Hyōgo

Prefecture, Japan and operated by the Japan, Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute.

SRS :

Synchrotron Radiation Source at the Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire, England was the firstsecond-generation synchrotron radiation source to produce X-rays.
