Abstract

Awareness is rising that mathematics plays a crucial role for innovation in many industries, including logistics, finance, electronics, and the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. This chapter argues that analyzing the mathematical discourse in industrial research and development is key to understand how mathematics innovates, where obstacles occur, and how innovation can be organized more systematically in the future.
