Abstract
As I have already asserted in Chap. 6 on the Member States, both Norway and Iceland are what I would call fundamental or human rights societies. A large number of international lawyers deal with human rights law and humanitarian law. In universities, this inclination is particularly strong. There seems to be a general feeling that human rights law is of higher moral quality than economic law. Workers’ rights have, according to this school of thought, also become human rights. In Europe, the Nordic countries have been trendsetters in this area for quite some time.
