Who’s a Candidate for a Vasectomy Reversal?

Abstract

The ideal candidate for vasectomy reversal is any relatively healthy male who desires elective reconnection of the vas primarily for the restoration of fertility, most often after prior vasectomy. Other reasons for patients to request a vasectomy reversal include iatrogenic damage to the vas at the time of inguinal herniorrhaphy, adult or pediatric. It is important to review any potential impact of male health, age, lifestyle, and prior fertility as well as the female partner age, health, and fecundity on reversal outcomes. Various medical conditions that would disqualify a patient from having an elective reversal include uncorrected high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, or the inability to discontinue anticoagulants.
