Abstract

During the last 10 years the investigation of slow neutron scattering has developed into a successful method being widely used to study the dynamics of atoms in condensed matter. This lecture presents an introduction into some important features of the method. Then it discusses a few typical and present-day experiments which have been selected from the main fields of application namely (1) phonon scattering in crystals, (2) scattering on fluctuations in liquids, and (3) scattering on magnetic fluctuations. This means that we restrict ourselves on the investigation of collective phenomena by coherent scattering.
