Abstract
The presentations in this section addressed some of the potentially harmful effects of human milk upon the recipient infant. These included: transmission of viral infection via milk; transmission of drugs via milk; deposition in developing tissues of the trans-fatty acids present in most milks; sensitization of the infant secondary to transfer of foreign antigens via milk; vitamin K deficiency and hemorrhagic disease of the newborn secondary to the low vitamin K content of human milk.
