Abstract
The antifungal susceptibility tests used in clinical mycology have been adopted from bacteriology for more than 30 years with only slight modifications1. Some investigators 1,3 have found an increasing number of weakness in corresponding tests on some diphasic fungi such as C.albicans with morphological conversion from the budding cell form into the parasitic hyphal form. In Taipei, we have found discrepancies between in vitro and in vivo drug susceptibility tests since 1986 2. The prevalence of clusters of miconazole, 5-fluorocytosine and amphotericin resistant strains of C.albicans was once considered to be too high; over 10 %, in patients who have never ever received any antimycotic therapeutics 2. The main purpose of this report is to share our experience using a simple and new method by means of ROSCOSENSITABS agar plate technique 2–4 on GTF cells of C.albicans 5,6 with the profession.
