Abstract
Many avenues are being explored in an effort to develop more effective and selective treatment of patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma. One approach termed biochemical modulation is based on “immortal”, although minimal, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) activity. At least six types of modulation have been attempted based on the current understating of 5-FU metabolism: 1) Methotrexate, 2) Thymidine, 3) PALA, 4) Allopurinol, 5) Folinic acid (FA), and 6) cisPlatin (DDP).
