Abstract
The genetic constitution of CIOMS is noteworthy in that it was created as a joint venture of WHO and UNESCO in 1949. In this immediate post-world war II period the principal assignment of CIOMS* was to re-establish international scientific and medical communication and facilitate this by aiding in the organization of international congresses. Although CIOMS continues to fulfill this function and to co-ordinate the international meetings through a detailed calendar listing which is widely distributed, it has undertaken other activities including the development of symposia and round table conferences such as this one.
