Abstract
This paper indicates how the choice of a model may influence the method of data collection, and relates trend-surface analysis to analysis of variance. One illustration of a good design for a quadratic trend model is given. This topic has relevance to geologists who are interested in trend-surface analysis, particularly to those who have responsibility of designing drilling patterns.
