Abstract
A semi-waveform speech coder is presented that combines adaptive delta modulation (ADM) with time domain harmonic scaling (TDHS) to achieve good quality speech coding at 4.4 kb/s. The use of TDHS reduces the transmission bit rate by 50%, while still maintaining good speech quality. Compared to other coding schemes of the same data-rate range, the proposed method is simple and fast. Another feature of this method is the variable output data-rate which is suitable for combined source and channel coding.
