Abstract
The design of guitars – either acoustic or electric – is strongly conditioned by the structural requirements. Any guitar must be strong enough to withstand the tension of the strings, light enough to be comfortable and shaped in a way that makes it easy to hold and to play. Acoustic guitars have the additional requirement that the soundboard and back must be flexible enough to move in response to the vibrating strings.
