Abstract
This paper will review the current knowledge of the mode of action of diphosphonates on calcium and phosphate metabolism and of the clinical application of these compounds. The relation with inorganic phosphate will be emphasized. In view of the space available no references will be given, the reader being referred to two recent reviews (1,2).
