Abstract

A recurring theme of our subject is the effort to say which functions on Γ belong to the Fourier-Stie1tjes transform space B(Γ), and which do not—what the transforms can do, and what they cannot do. The question is a deep one. The known characterizations are neither subtle nor powerful. Indeed, it appears that the property of being a transform is not truly reducible. This Chapter treats three aspects of transform behavior. Our three topics, which may be read independently, are as follows.
