Abstract

Control of translational accuracy has been well documented in bacteria, especially E. coli. The key role played by the ribosome has been emphazised through the use of aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as streptomycin) and the study of mutations which enhance or decrease the rate of errors in translation (see Piepersberg et al, 1980 for a review).
