Summary

An open loop CNC turning system is proposed in which speed and feeds are controlled to provide minimum cost machining. A description of the system is first given including details of the hardware, programming and optimisation procedure. There follows a discussion of cost optimisation in turning, and finally recommendations are made for the design and operation of an industrial version of the system.
