Abstract
This chapter illustrates the use of the model to assess the needs of, and to plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care for, a child undergoing elective eye surgery. Emphasis is placed on the influence of the life span on activities of living and therefore on the nursing care associated with them. The discussion focuses on pre-operative care, but all the nursing care is included in the care plan. It is the story of three-year-old George, admitted to the children’s ward for correction of a squint in his right eye, and of his mother Linda, who stayed with him.
