Mutagenicity of BZD, DAT, DAB and CDA in the Bacterial Mutagenicity Test

Summary

BZD, DAT, DAB AND CDA (Sample A) were tested in the Ames Salmonella test using strain TA1538. Each compound was tested with and without S9 mix prepared from Aroclor induced rat or uninduced mouse liver. The S9 fraction in the S9 mix was varied to give 4%, 10% or 30% concentration. Each compond was tested three times with similar results. Only DAT and BZD showed a positive mutagenic response. The magnitude of the response varied with the species, concentration and the absence or presence of the S9 mix.

In addition it was found that the volume of S9 mix added per plate altered the mutagenic response seen with BZD and that S9 mix prepared from uninduced Syrian hamster was the most effective of the S9 mixes used.
