From Fenner Brockway, Towards Tomorrow (London: Hart-Davies, MacGibbon, 1977) p. 62. Brockway stood unsuccessfully as ILP candidate for Lancaster in 1922 and Shaw was one of a distinguished band who came there to speak on his behalf in the large Ashton Hall.
