Abstract

Systems architectures get normally more and more complexity be increasing functionality, by implementing additional features, by using microelectronic and digital components, by dominant processing of signals and information, by software-based applications, by optimizing the price/performance ratio etc. The realization of a lot of industrial systems is based on the use of processors, memories, I/O components, communication nets, programs, and application workloads. This implies a common system view with comparable structures, similar modelling approaches, and computer aided system evaluation. The paper discusses an analytical solution in assistance of systems architectures design and represents practical experiences using stochastic Petri nets realized by a tool TOMSPIN (TOol for Modelling based on Stochastic PetrI Nets). Motivated to introduce a powerful methodology in CAST the presentation will give an overview of the concept and its use.
