Abstract

Constraints on the structure of the magnetic field of Ap stars are derived from observations of spectral line profiles recorded in circularly polarized light. In particular, an original, quantitative analysis of the crossover effect, through the moment technique, is presented. Departures of the field structure from a centred dipole are found for several stars.
