Chernoff bound of trellis coded modulation over correlated rayleigh channel

Abstract

We derive here a Chernoff upper bound for the pairwise error probability in the presence of an additive white Gaussian noise and a Rayleigh or Rice correlated fading. The bound is first used to obtain an upper bound for the bit error probability of a trellis-coded modulation system. The result is then employed to evaluate the performance of a multichannel system which represents a good strategy for reducing the time delay due to interleaving.
