Abstract

One of the most important geospecific components for geoinformation systems in geology is the management of well data. In this chapter we show as an example a case study of well data from the Lower Rhine Basin, how useful it is for the geosciences to integrate heterogeneous data sources. The significance of the integration of heterogeneous spatial representations is again shown by an application in the North German Basin, Lower Saxony. Finally a data model integration is developed. It leads to the “intersection” of the geological with the geophysical 3D model which is presented in a specialized geophysical 3D modelling tool. In the following we distinguish between the meta data approach and the original data approach for data integration.
