This special section focuses on esophageal motility disorders, addressing the critical role of radiology in diagnosing and managing these conditions. Esophageal dysmotility, presenting with symptoms like dysphagia, regurgitation, and chest pain, significantly affects patients' quality of life. The collection aims to update the radiology community on the latest developments since the introduction of the Chicago Classification v4.0 in 2021. This collection section covers a wide range of topics and is contributed to by a team of experts across radiology, gastroenterology, and surgery, is essential for radiologists and healthcare professionals involved in the management of esophageal motility disorders, offering a comprehensive understanding of both diagnostic challenges and treatment strategies.

  • Jessica Zarzour, MD

    Heersink School of Medicine, University of Alabama at Birmingham, United States of America Vice chair of Education, Chief of GI Modality, and Associate Professor in the Abdominal Imaging Section, completed medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She completed residency training in diagnostic radiology at UAB and completed fellowship training in abdominal imaging at UAB. Dr. Zarzour practices a full spectrum abdominal imaging including fluoroscopy, CT, and US. Her research interests include swallowing disorders, contrast enhanced ultrasound, diversity and inclusion, and educational initiatives.
