Women in Spine

Participating journal: European Spine Journal
The topical collection "Women in Spine" is set up to particularly highlight issues related to or pertinent to women, and intends to summarize all aspects of the spine that affect women in a distinct way. The aim is to provide an evidence-based reference body of work of medical and paramedical significance related to the spine that are specific for women. It will also guide readers toward further relevant in-depth clinical content. The topics can go from diagnostics to treatment, over pregnancy issues, osteoporosis, psychology, women-related work issues influencing the spine and so on. We look forward to receiving and reviewing your cutting-edge contributions.

    Carlotta Martini, MD

    Dr Martini is a highly experienced Spine Surgeon focused on degenerative pathology. She comes from a Neurosurgery background and has spent several years in an Orthopaedic Spine department gaining very valuable hybrid education. Her main activity is clinical practice and surgery, but she is also interested in conservative treatment for degenerative spine conditions and evolution of minimal invasive surgery techniques for degenerative spine pathology. Dr Martini works at the Integrated Spine Pathology Center in Lucca, Italy and has been Deputy Editor (Supplements) for European Spine Journal since january 2024.
  • Maryem Fama Ismael Aguirre, MD

    Maryem Fama Ismael Aguirre, MD

    Dr Maryem Ismael studied biology at Brown University (United States) and then Medicine at the Navarre Medical School (Spain). She completed her training in Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Madrid in 2014. She practised at the Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi in Milan, then completed two fellowships in spine surgery at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh (UK). She is currently in private practice in Rabat, Morocco.
