2024 European Muscle Conference

This Special Collection is dedicated to the 51st European Muscle Conference (EMC), which will take place at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The conference will open on 22 September with the Jean Hanson Lecture by Professor Juleen R. Zierath and close with the Marcus Schaub Young Investigators Awards on 26 September. The scientific program of the 2024 conference will have a particular focus on muscle energy metabolism, but will also cover a broad spectrum of muscle topics ranging from molecular structure to whole-body physiology and pathophysiology. In keeping with the EMC tradition, the 2024 conference aims to create an environment that fosters the meeting of experts in a variety of specialist topics as well as interdisciplinary dialogue. In addition to the main program, EMC 2024 will offer two satellite events. The Young Investigators Forum, organized by the European Society of Muscle Research – Early Careers Association on 22 September 2024, will provide a unique opportunity for PhD students and postdocs to present and discuss their work. The symposium and workshop Skeletal Muscle Research – from Cell to Human on 26 September 2024 will feature selected lectures and hands-on demonstrations focusing on in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo methods to assess skeletal muscle metabolism and composition. All participants of EMC 2024 or its satellite events are invited to submit original research papers or reviews for this Special Collection.
