Recent Advances in Botanical Biocides

The Journal of Pest Science is seeking submissions for a Special Issue on “Recent Advances in Botanical Biocides” guest edited by Giovanni Benelli (University of Pisa, Italy), Orlando Campolo (Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, Italy), Azucena Gonzalez Coloma (Spanish National Research Council, Spain), Murray B. Isman (University of British Columbia, Canada) and Roman Pavela (Crop Research Institute, Cech Republic). The special issue explores the latest developments in the field of sustainable pest control using botanicals. This collection of articles covers the latest research, innovations, and discoveries in the use of botanicals to control pests of agricultural, medical-veterinary importance, forestry, urban, and stored products. Contributions addressing the problems of regulatory approval and health and safety issues are welcome. Readers can expect to find in-depth examinations of novel botanical pesticides, their modes of action, efficacy, sub-lethal effects, formulation, environmental impact, and their potential applications in agriculture, pest management, and sustainable pest control practices. The special issue offers valuable insights to develop safer and more eco-friendly alternatives to traditional chemical pesticides.

Murray Isman, Dean Emeritus of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, is a Professor of Entomology and Toxicology. With over 40 years of research, he focused on insect toxicology and behavior, notably contributing to the discovery and development of botanical insecticides. Author of 200+ peer-reviewed publications, cited over 30,000 times, and co-editor of two books, Isman earned the 2011 Gold Medal from the Entomological Society of Canada. With global appointments in Germany, Brazil, China, and Korea, he received his Entomology doctorate from the University of California, Davis, in 1981.

  • González Coloma

Dr. González Coloma is a Senior Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences of the CSIC in Spain. Her line of research focuses on the biotechnological production of botanical and fungal biopesticides. She develops research from bioprospection, production and optimization (artificial crops, in the field or fermentation) of biopesticides from the flora of various regions of Spain and other parts of the world, as well as agricultural residues. She has published more than 180 scientific articles in indexed journals, elaborated patents (9) and has directed 14 Doctoral Theses among other contributions.
