Special Issue in honor of former Editor-in-Chief Prof. Richard Glennon

This special issue is dedicated to Prof. Richard Glennon for his many years of dedication to research and education in medicinal chemistry. The special issue will be published to honor Prof. Richard Glennon on the occasion of his retirement from Virginia Commonwealth University after 45 years of dedicated service. Prof. Glennon served as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal from 1992 to 2002. Because of their great vision and pioneering work, the journal is where it is now today, rapidly publishing high-quality medicinal chemistry research from around the world.

The special issue will be guest edited by two editorial board members Profs. Thomas Prisinzano and Glen Kellogg.

Prof. Glennon received his B.S. degree in pharmacy and M.S. degree in medicinal chemistry from Northeastern University and his Ph.D. degree in medicinal chemistry from SUNY Buffalo, followed by an ADAMHA (Alcohol, Drug Abuse, Mental Health) postdoctoral fellowship in psychopharmacology with Dr. Peter Gessner at the SUNY School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry (now Medicinal Chemistry) at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1974, first as an assistant professor and then rose through the ranks to become professor, department Chair, and the Alfred and Frances Burger Distinguished Professor of Medicinal Chemistry. Prof. Glennon has trained over 100 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists, published more than 400 articles and book chapters, and holds a number of patents. He served as a Senior/Associate Editor for Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and the Editor-in-Chief of Medicinal Chemistry Research – two journals founded by Dr. Alfred Burger. Among the awards Prof. Glennon received include the VCU Award of Excellence (in teaching, research, and service), the American Pharmaceutical Association’s Research Achievement Award, the European Federation of Medicinal Chemistry’s Order of the Oak and Tulip Medal, and the joint Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and ACS Medicinal Chemistry Division’s Portoghese Lectureship. Prof. Glennon was inducted into the ACS Division of Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame in 2014.
