Microplastics as contaminants in the Geosphere: Assessments and Mitigation

Microplastics have become a pervasive environmental concern due to their widespread presence in various subcomponents of the Geosphere, including the Lithosphere and Hydrosphere. These anthropogenic contaminants pose significant risks to ecosystems and human health. Understanding the impacts of microplastics is crucial for developing effective mitigation strategies and risk assessments.

Recent advances have shed light on the widespread distribution of microplastics in the Geosphere and their potential ecological and human health implications. Future research endeavors may focus on developing innovative mitigation techniques, assessing long-term impacts, and understanding the fate and transport of microplastics in different subcomponents of the Geosphere.

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
