Special Issue by invitation only: Life Beneath the Waves – Imagined, Encountered, and Exploited

This Special Issue explores life beneath the waves from the darkness of deep-sea plains to the mountain streams. Looking at the vast darkness of the abyss and the towering sea mounts, the reefs and islands, the coastal rises and streams forming our oceans, this set of papers encourages environmental historians and scholars from other disciplines to explore different forms of aquatic life that flourish between the terrestrial mountains and the ocean floor. Hence, the papers address different perspectives on various forms of life beneath the waves that have been encountered and exploited for centuries.
