Abstract

For the average British family, their home is not only their castle, it is their largest investment, and their pension. Small wonder that, according to the Environmental Change Institute’s Brenda Boardman, “the present rate of demolition in the UK is low—resulting in less than 0.01 percent of the stock being demolished each year and implying that the stock is replaced once every 1,300 years.”
