Abstract

In the summer of 2000, Canadian national parks warden Angus Simpson and his colleagues were camped along the north coast of Yukon Territory near the Alaskan border, conducting a survey of archeological sites along the coast. The sea was dead calm at the time, but they could see in the inky blue sky over Beaufort Sea the telltale signs of a storm advancing. An hour or so after they turned in for the night, the first big gust of wind blew in, completely flattening their tent and forcing them to take refuge in the cubbyhole of their boat.
