Abstract
Following is the full text of the original instructions, or design brief, provided to designers wanting to enter the Build a Better Burb competition for Long Island, sponsored in 2010 by the Long Island Index, a project of the Rauch Foundation. Drafting an effective brief is an essential component of sponsoring a successful design competition.
