Abstract

Owners of this iron-ore mine in Brazil saw mining as a temporary use of the land and began planning in the early 1990s to reuse the excavated pit once mineral resources are depleted. The master plan transforms the massive open pit and waste areas into a satellite village for a metropolitan region.
