Abstract
Although prerequisites involve the complex requests and information that the client gives to the designer, the urban design team needs to take additional steps to delve more deeply into the site and its context, parts, and components. This is the part of the process we define as knowledge. This stage is pivotal in the process. It is the time when designers investigate a site and its surroundings to understand the place that they will attempt to transform. Kevin Lynch states: “Every site, natural or man-made, is to some degree unique, a connected web of things and activities. That web imposes limitations and offers possibilities” (Lynch and Hack 1984, 5).
