Abstract

Instruction level parallelism (ILP) is the key to improve the performance of modern architectures. ILP allows the instructions of a sequential program to be executed in parallel on multiple data paths and functional units. Data and control independent instructions determine the groups of instructions that can be issued together while keeping the program correctness (Muchnick 1997).
