Abstract
The genus, Mycobacterium, is classified in the order of Actinomycetales and the family Mycobacteriaceae. In general, species of mycobacteria that are pathogenic to humans are more acid fast, grow more slowly, form less pigment, and are more susceptible to chemotherapy than are saprophytic species.
