Abstract

Phineas T. Barnum is remembered for many things. He was the super-salesman of his day. And perhaps the super-cynic. He is particularly remembered for phrases which capture his philosophy:

  • ‘Money is a terrible master but an excellent servant’

  • ‘There’s a sucker born every minute’

  • ‘Every crown has a silver lining’

  • ‘Advertising is like learning — a little is a dangerous thing’
