Abstract
The rise of Taiwanese consciousness, the view of Taiwan as its own entity and not as an appendage of China, seems almost inevitable in light of Taiwan’s economic growth and political reform. The people of Taiwan have their own unique set of experiences and share a common destiny. Psychological identification with each other and their land and its history is a natural development. But does psychological identification imply national identity?
