Abstract

Born in Moscow in 1936, Igor Guberman belongs to the generation that came of age in the post-Stalinist thaw 11of the late fifties. Guberman graduated from the Moscow Institute of Transporta01111d cybernetics, and writes articles for the popular science magazine, Znanie-sila (Science is knowledge), one of the most interesting journals of the time. He also works as a ghost writer for members of the Writers Union, although he himself is not a member. Guberman is actively involved in dissident and samizdat activity, and becomes well-known for his satirical rhymed quatrains, later named “gariki,” whose compact form becomes a venue for a free-spirited voice that speaks of love, life, and life’s ironies.
