Abstract

Violent conflict is like a virus, its survival and sustenance depending upon its environment. Conflict breeds conflict and violence generates more violence; a recent World Bank study concluded that countries with a recent history of civil war face a 40 percent chance of further violent conflict (Collier 2000, 6).
