Abstract

In the course of South Africa’s first decade of democracy, the role of small political parties has become the subject of much speculation. The smallest parties on the South African political landscape seem trapped in what has become a fish bowl of opposition politics. Questions have emerged around their relevance and future prospects. What do these parties stand for and to which part of the electorate do they appeal?
