Abstract
Globalization is at the heart of economic change in the twenty-first century. Its impact on the future well-being of people in developed and developing countries has been the subject of much debate and controversy among scholars, policy-makers, and activists. Some identify globalization as the major source of economic problems, others as the panacea for their solution. Yet others, including this author, see it as a powerful process whose social and economic outcomes are not preordained, but contingent upon policies and preexisting conditions.
